The perpetrator gathered intelligence on defense facilities to direct enemy missiles and drones
The Security Service of Ukraine, in cooperation with the National Police, has apprehended a ZSU serviceman who was working for Russian intelligence. The individual coordinated massive strikes on Kyiv between September 21 and 24, 2026. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from Security Service of Ukraine, based on data from the National Police of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the suspect was mobilized in the Ternopil region but deserted his unit in the Kyiv region shortly after being drafted. While in the capital, he began seeking quick income opportunities through messengers, where he was contacted by a representative of Russian special services.
Attack coordination scheme
Over the course of four days, the perpetrator monitored facilities that he believed could be used by the Defense Forces. He passed the obtained coordinates to the enemy to target ballistic missiles and Geran-5 type attack drones. Additionally, the individual conducted follow-up reconnaissance on the results of enemy strikes by visiting the impact sites.
Consequences of the agent’s actions
As a result of the massive combined attacks coordinated by the detainee, residential buildings and a maternity hospital in Kyiv sustained damage. It was also established that the individual conducted reconnaissance in the Poltava region and planned to commit arson against Ukrainian military service vehicles.
Detention and legal status
Law enforcement officers apprehended the agent near his temporary residence in Kyiv. During the investigation, two smartphones used for communication with the FSB were seized, along with an incendiary mixture intended for vehicle arson. The suspect is currently in custody and has been notified of suspicion of high treason committed under martial law.
