The US plans to intensify sanctions to shift the dynamics on the battlefield
Republican Congressman Dan Crenshaw stated that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's remarks regarding a stalemate in the war in Ukraine were misinterpreted. According to him, Rubio's assessment refers strictly to the current battlefield situation rather than a call for surrender. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Дарина Пшенична), according to the portal PromPolitInform.
Dan Crenshaw emphasized that the positions of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Marco Rubio do not contradict each other. On one hand, Washington is providing an objective assessment of the military situation, while on the other, it supports the need to strengthen Ukraine’s leverage against the adversary.
To alter the current dynamic, which currently appears as a stalemate, American lawmakers advocate for the implementation of harsh sanctions against the rf. Crenshaw stressed that the enforcement of already adopted restriction packages is a vital tool for compelling the Russian leadership to engage in meaningful negotiations.
Leverage and sanctions
The congressman paid special attention to the operation of the Starlink network. He voiced support for efforts to convince Elon Musk to restore the full functionality of these services, which is necessary for Ukraine’s stable defensive operations.
«Sometimes you have to escalate in order to eventually de-escalate. That is exactly how one needs to act, especially when dealing with an aggressive bully,» Dan Crenshaw noted in his address to the businessman.
The goal of diplomatic pressure
The politician reassured that US officials are not calling on Kyiv to surrender or admit defeat. Instead, there is an ongoing search for mechanisms that could force Vladimir Putin into a constructive dialogue.
Currently, as noted in Washington, the Russian side shows no readiness for substantive talks. Future US efforts will be focused on creating conditions that will shift the strategic position on the battlefield in Ukraine’s favor.
