Inflation in Ukraine Reaches 10%: Prices Surge in September 2026

Consumer prices rose by 2.1% in September while core inflation reached 2%

In September 2026, consumer prices in Ukraine increased by 2.1% compared to August, bringing annual inflation to 10%. According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, eggs and educational services experienced the sharpest monthly price increases. This was reported by Glavcom citing the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

Core inflation during the first month of autumn stood at 2% relative to August and 8.8% year-on-year. Since the beginning of the year, consumer prices have expanded by 8.4% compared to December 2025.

Food products and non-alcoholic beverages generally added 1.9% in value over the month. Eggs became the leader in price growth, surging by 43.6%.

Changes in Food Prices

Prices for sugar, lard, milk, rice, and fish products grew within the range of 1.7% to 8.3%. Conversely, fresh vegetables and fruits showed a price decrease of 2.3% and 5.7% respectively.

Year-on-year, fish and fish products added 23%, while sunflower oil became 21.4% more expensive. Overall food products rose in price by 8.9% over the year.

Clothing, Utilities, and Transport

Clothing and footwear increased in price by 8.5% in September, although these goods cost 4.7% less compared to the same period last year. The housing and utilities sector grew by 0.8%, driven mainly by water supply and sewage tariffs.

The healthcare sector added 1.7%, and transport prices rose by 2.7%. Fuels and lubricants grew by 5.2%, while railway passenger transport decreased by 0.3%.

Dynamics in the Educational Sector

Educational services showed the highest growth among all categories in September, rising by 17.4%. Higher education increased by 23.3%, while secondary education went up by 14.3%.

Year-on-year, educational services became 19.6% more expensive. Over the first nine months of the current year, the cost within this category grew by 15.1% compared to the previous year.
