Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Russia is violating ‘energy ceasefire’

The Ukrainian president stressed that security arrangements must be effective in reality rather than just on social media

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Russia of failing to adhere to the terms of the so-called "energy ceasefire" announced by Donald Trump. Speaking at the Warsaw Security Forum, the head of state warned that Kyiv is prepared to respond to enemy strikes on critical infrastructure. This was reported by Sky News citing Reuters, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

According to the president, the Ukrainian side first learned about the initiative to halt attacks on energy facilities from the media. He pointed out that while the US side was announcing the agreements on a social media platform, Russian drones continued to attack targets in Ukraine, demonstrating that the Kremlin is ignoring such declarations.

Assessing energy deals

Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed skepticism regarding the impact of potential Russian diesel fuel supplies on global market prices. He noted that the volumes proposed by Moscow, ranging from 300,000 to 500,000 tonnes per month, are negligible compared to the global consumption of 120 million tonnes, suggesting that such actions are driven by different motives.

Future of security dialogue

The president emphasized that Kyiv is awaiting concrete steps from Washington and details regarding their contacts with Russia. Ukraine is prepared to uphold the agreements provided they lead to a real reduction in escalation; however, should Russian shelling of the energy sector continue, the Armed Forces of Ukraine reserve the right to respond appropriately.

During his speech at the forum, Volodymyr Zelenskyy also ruled out the possibility of holding elections in Ukraine under current martial law due to security concerns. He called on Western partners to work together toward guaranteeing security and ending hostilities, emphasizing that resolving these issues requires tangible action rather than posts on Truth Social.
