The EU intends to maintain pressure on the russian economy to deplete its war resources
High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stated that Ukraine's attacks on the russian oil sector are entirely justified. It is the revenue from energy sales that allows the Kremlin to sustain its army and continue the war. This was reported by Ukrinform, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
In Brussels, before the opening of the European Council meeting, Kaja Kallas emphasized that limiting financial flows entering the russian budget through oil sales is a key tool for halting the aggression. According to the official, depriving the rf of sources for financing military actions is a direct path toward ending the conflict.
Priorities of European policy
The EU representative stressed the need to increase external pressure on Russia rather than forcing Ukraine to surrender. She assured that the European community remains committed to its support and joint efforts to end the hostilities.
As part of the two-day European Council summit, European leaders plan to examine mechanisms for further assistance to Ukraine in detail. Tomorrow’s agenda includes an address by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who will speak directly to the representatives of EU member states regarding the current military and political situation.
