UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham blames Russia for the collapse of the energy ceasefire

Moscow continued strikes on energy infrastructure despite the initiative proposed by Donald Trump

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has accused the Russian Federation of violating agreements to cease attacks on energy facilities. The head of government stated that the aggressor continues to strike Ukraine's critical infrastructure, effectively neutralizing Donald Trump's initiative. This was reported by Sky News citing Reuters, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Kyiv was prepared to adhere to the energy ceasefire, but Moscow’s actions demonstrated a lack of intention toward de-escalation. Andy Burnham is convinced that the world has once again received evidence of who the aggressor is in this full-scale war.

He also noted that the last few days have been challenging for President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The British government intends to strengthen ties with the US to ensure continued support for the Ukrainian state.

Frozen Russian assets

Amid the rising tensions, it emerged that European politicians rejected a proposal from Donald Trump’s envoys to unfreeze a portion of Russian sovereign assets. Washington suggested using these funds to revive peace talks, but met resistance from EU delegates.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, speaking at an EU summit in Brussels, stressed that the funds immobilized in Europe since the 2022 invasion must remain under European control. According to Merz, it is up to Europe to decide how these assets are utilized.

Incidents in the Black Sea

Meanwhile, the Romanian Naval Authority provided details regarding a drone strike on vessels near its coast. One of the ships hit by drones was located one nautical mile outside Romanian territorial waters.

The location was southeast of the port of Sulina. Official information regarding the position of the second vessel that caught fire in the area overnight is still pending.

Pressure on the aggressor

UK Chancellor of the Exchequer John Healey, attending the G20 summit in Bangkok, stated that sanctions pressure on Moscow must not be eased. He stressed the importance of maintaining economic pressure on Vladimir Putin during the current conflict.
