Charges Announced for General Who Switched Sides After Crimea Annexation

Major General Andriy Bezlyudko Commands Occupant Forces on the Vovchansk Direction

The SBU has announced charges of high treason and desertion against Major General Andriy Bezlyudko, who switched to the Russian side after the annexation of Crimea and is now fighting against Ukraine. This was reported by Ukrinform citing SBU Office in Zhytomyr Region, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

The Security Service of Ukraine investigators have gathered evidence against Major General Andriy Bezlyudko of the Russian Armed Forces, a native of Cherkasy, who is fighting against Ukraine as part of the Russian army. Currently, he commands one of the tactical directions of the ‘Sever’ troop group and leads the combat operations of the occupiers on the Vovchansk direction.

Switching Sides in 2014

According to the investigation, Bezlyudko defected to the enemy side in 2014 following the annexation of Crimea. At the time, he held the rank of captain and served as chief of staff — first deputy commander of a mountain infantry battalion of the Ukrainian Navy. After the seizure of the peninsula, he failed to obey the command order, remained in Crimea, obtained Russian citizenship, and voluntarily joined the Russian occupation forces.

Role in the Full-Scale Invasion

It is noted that before the full-scale invasion, he rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel and served as chief of staff — deputy commander of a motorized rifle regiment. From the first days of the full-scale war, Bezlyudko participated in combat operations against Ukraine. Under his command, Russian forces shelled and captured settlements in the Zaporizhzhia region and terrorized Ukrainians at checkpoints in temporarily occupied territories.

Charges and Punishment

Over three years, he attained the rank of major general and took command of the 69th Motorized Rifle Division of the 6th Combined Arms Army of the ‘Sever’ troop group. SBU investigators have formally notified Bezlyudko of charges under Article 111, Part 1 (high treason) and Article 408, Part 1 (desertion) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. By order of the Ukrainian Navy command, the traitor was dismissed from military service and stripped of his military rank in a disciplinary proceeding. He has been declared wanted.
