US Vice President JD Vance characterizes Vladimir Putin

The official noted the Russian leader's composure during phone conversations

US Vice President JD Vance stated that the real persona of Russian President Vladimir Putin differs from his media portrayal. According to the American politician, the Kremlin leader behaves in a measured and cautious manner during dialogue. This was reported by Glavcom, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

JD Vance emphasized that he has not had any face-to-face meetings with Vladimir Putin, though he has maintained phone contact with him. During these conversations, the Russian leader demonstrated composure, which, according to the US Vice President, contradicts the stereotype formed by American media.

View on Russian interests

The American official noted that he perceives the Kremlin leader’s actions as a reflection of his own view of Russia’s interests. Vance suggests that this is why the Russian side shows a degree of respect for Donald Trump, as they see him as a leader who also prioritizes his own country’s national interests.

Criticism from legislators

Meanwhile, the current US administration’s decision to forgo sanctions mandated by the Graham Act has triggered a sharp response among members of Congress. Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal condemned the move, calling it support for the Russian war machine.

Reaction from the Ukrainian side

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also expressed disagreement with Donald Trump’s decision to freeze the restrictions. In his view, easing sanctions pressure on Moscow amidst ongoing strikes on Ukraine’s energy system is a dangerous signal that could only encourage continued aggression.
