Recent initiatives by United States President Donald Trump, aimed at achieving a truce between Ukraine and Russia, have met with mixed reactions globally and within Ukrainian society. The Union of Officers of Ukraine has also expressed its position on these matters. The All-Ukrainian Public Organization “Union of Officers of Ukraine” released a statement regarding these recent “peace initiatives” on its website and via Facebook. The portal PromPolitInform presents the text in full.
The statement emphasizes:
“The Union of Officers of Ukraine strives for peace!
Ukrainian society—and society beyond Ukraine’s borders—has been stirred by the recently voiced peace initiatives and statements from the President of the United States. The ‘energy truce’ and ‘diesel deal’ he announced are intended—in the view of Trump and his inner circle—to bring Russia’s military-political leadership to the negotiating table to end the Russo-Ukrainian War.” The terms for a truce or a cessation of hostilities—as circulated in the media and on social networks—currently lack any legal definition as a formal “deal” or contractual obligation. Furthermore, the opinions offered by various experts are merely speculative and remain unsupported by statements from official sources. Plans to end the war—whether consisting of 20, 5, 4, or 8 points—remain nothing more than fantasies, devoid of any substantive backing.
Meanwhile, while the Russian side has confirmed agreements regarding the supply of diesel fuel to international markets, it has made no commitments whatsoever to halt the bombing of Ukrainian civilians. No ceasefire agreement exists between Ukraine and Russia; there is no truce, and Putin offers no indication that one might emerge in the foreseeable future.
Trump and Putin inhabit different worlds: the former lives in a realm of mercantile “deals” and the worship of the golden calf, while the latter is held captive by his own ideological constructs. Both are driven by a belief in their own imperial exceptionalism. Unfortunately, these two worlds intersect precisely where Ukraine’s interests lie. At the same time, the Kremlin’s military and political leadership openly mocks the American leader, disregards his “initiatives,” and—failing to achieve its stated objectives on the battlefield—continues to terrorize Ukraine. At the same time, we remain sincerely grateful to the nations of the world—and, in particular, to the American people—for their comprehensive support of our struggle for national identity, freedom, independence, and, quite simply, the right to live.
So-called “doves of peace”—including those in Ukraine—must realize that there is currently no basis for negotiations; the political positions of the warring parties remain unchanged. Any illusions regarding peaceful compromises with Russia have long since vanished—Russia seeks our destruction. Our northern neighbor does not envision Ukraine on the map of the future, nor does it see a place for Ukrainians within the family of nations. The genocide of the Ukrainian people is ongoing, and we must be fully aware of this reality.
All wars eventually end at the negotiating table. This war, too, will conclude through negotiations and the signing of agreements. However, the primary diplomatic leverage remains—and will continue to be—superiority on the battlefield, coupled with the aggressor’s realization that the military cost of achieving any potential political objectives is unacceptably high.
In light of the above, the Union of Officers of Ukraine issues the following statement:
The public statements and actions of the Kremlin leadership offer no grounds for optimism regarding a diplomatic resolution to the existing economic and political disputes. The situation leaves us no choice: we must defend ourselves; we will fight for Ukraine and destroy the aggressor.
Negotiations concerning the end of the war in Europe and the subsequent post-war order cannot take place without the participation of the European community. Furthermore, we will not accept any decisions regarding Ukraine that are made without Ukraine’s involvement—regardless of who might make them. At the same time, economic, financial, and social conditions—as well as the supply of weapons and ammunition—require flexibility from Ukraine’s military-political leadership on the international stage; we will support them in this endeavor.
The Union of Officers of Ukraine does not accept, and will never accept, any territorial concessions to the aggressor, “exchanges” of territory, limitations on sovereignty, or interference in our internal affairs.
We declare that corruption-prone schemes and fraudulent dealings are unacceptable. We insist that those who steal must inevitably face punishment, and we remind everyone that not all “elite” criminals will manage to escape to the “Monaco Battalion” or to Israel.
It is also necessary to bring the issue of criminal liability for Russia and Russian officials regarding war crimes against Ukraine back to the forefront, and to intensify the work of the Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression.
“The Union of Officers of Ukraine strives for peace! A just peace! And we must win it.
Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the Heroes!” — states the declaration by the All-Ukrainian Public Organization “Union of Officers of Ukraine.”
The statement was approved by a decision of the Central Leadership of the All-Ukrainian Public Organization “Union of Officers of Ukraine” dated October 15, 2026, No. 44/2026.
