Yurii Ihnat: Partners provided data on the second ballistic missile launch

Ukrainian specialists are working with allies to investigate the cause of the information delay regarding the first attack

Information about the first wave of ballistic missile strikes on the night of October 19 did not arrive from partners, but data regarding the second strike was received on time. Experts are currently analyzing the reasons for the technical delay in data transmission. This was reported by Ukrinform, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

Yurii Ihnat, Chief of the Communications Department of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reported difficulties in receiving warnings about ballistic threats. During two waves of strikes recorded at 11:00 PM and 3:00 AM, the situation regarding information from partners varied significantly.

Analysis of alert system performance

Yurii Ihnat emphasized that the lack of real-time data during the first launch is not an isolated incident. Air Force specialists, in collaboration with international partners, have launched an investigation to determine why the signal did not arrive on time.

Ukraine does not rely solely on external sources, actively utilizing its own radar coverage and other flight tracking channels. The Air Force promptly disseminates air alert information on its own verified channels; however, the extremely high speed of ballistic missiles complicates the timely activation of sirens.

The time factor of ballistic threats

Only minutes pass from the moment of launch from regions bordering the Russian Federation to the impact. Due to this time scarcity, even automated civilian alert algorithms do not always manage to react faster than the missile itself.

Recall that on the night of October 19, Russian occupying forces carried out a massive attack using drones and Iskander-M or S-400 ballistic missiles. Defense forces neutralized four missiles and 243 attack drones, although hits were recorded at 25 locations across Ukraine.
