Kremlin expects visit from Steve Witkoff to discuss contacts with Ukraine

Moscow hopes to receive reports from the American negotiator regarding the talks held in Norway

The Kremlin has expressed hope for a meeting between Vladimir Putin and American negotiator Steve Witkoff. The Russian side is seeking information about the contacts US representatives have had with Ukrainian and European partners. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Олена Чупровська) citing The Wall Street Journal, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that it is important for the Russian leadership to receive data regarding the outcomes of the communication between Steve Witkoff and representatives from Kyiv and Europe. According to the official, Moscow values the mediation efforts of Washington and considers the exchange of signals between the parties to be significant.

Earlier, information emerged regarding negotiations held in Norway, where the presence of Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, President of Finland Alexander Stubb, and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected. The Kremlin has currently declined to confirm the location or time of any potential future meetings with the American delegation.

At the same time, media reports indicate that the rf is planning a trilateral summit involving the US and China in November. The stated goal of such an event is to discuss the end of the war in Ukraine on terms acceptable to Moscow, though the participation of the Ukrainian leader is not envisioned.

Dmitry Peskov noted, however, that reaching final agreements on ending hostilities without considering Kyiv’s position is an impossible task. Nevertheless, Russian officials have not yet specified whom they would be prepared to see as a representative of the Ukrainian side during the dialogue.
