State Energy Supervision Service explains power outage specifics during the war

The State Energy Supervision Service of Ukraine has clarified the technical aspects of power supply restrictions during martial law and systemic attacks by russia on infrastructure. Some power lines may simultaneously serve critical infrastructure and residential buildings, making it impossible to disconnect only specific consumers. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, based on data from the State Energy Supervision Inspectorate of Ukraine.

The agency emphasized that hourly blackout schedules are implemented following commands from NPC Ukrenergo based on the operational status of the unified energy system. However, due to new equipment damage, the operational situation may necessitate emergency and unplanned measures.

The creation of priority lists for critical infrastructure objects is the responsibility of regional and Kyiv city military administrations. These lists are compiled based on technical network schemes after consultations with local distribution system operators.

Network specifics and load distribution

The difference in power availability between neighboring houses is due to them being connected to different power lines. Local emergency situations and sharing a line with critical infrastructure also play a role.

The State Energy Supervision Service is working with regional military administrations and regional energy companies to ensure fair distribution of restrictions. Measures are also being taken to reduce the secondary load on lines serving critical infrastructure wherever technically feasible.

Rational electricity consumption

The supervisory authority has called on consumers to use electricity sparingly to reduce the total load on the grid. Citizens are advised to schedule the use of high-energy appliances during off-peak hours.

Precise information regarding the status of local networks and reasons for power outages at specific addresses is published by distribution system operators on their official resources.
