Ukraine and Norway Discuss Air Defence Missiles and Anti-Drone Support

Kyiv seeks additional missiles for NASAMS and ammunition for F-16 fighter jets

Minister of Defence of Ukraine Yevheniy Khmara held talks with Norwegian Defence Minister Tore Sandvik on strengthening Ukrainian air defence. The discussion focused on counteracting ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones, as well as urgently replenishing missile stockpiles. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian side emphasised that interceptor missiles are currently the most critical need for securing the sky. Officials explored options for an urgent increase in missile stocks with support from Norwegian partners.

Special attention during the talks was given to the project integrating additional missiles into NASAMS air defence systems currently deployed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The defense chiefs reviewed the progress of this initiative in detail.

Ballistic Threats and Countering Jet Drones

The enemy’s use of ballistic weapons and jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicles was identified among the primary security challenges facing critical infrastructure. To effectively counter jet drones, Ukraine employs aviation, which requires stable and increased supplies of ammunition for F-16 aircraft.

Man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS) also remain a vital component for point defence. Ukraine relies on Norway’s assistance to secure additional MANPADS units and missiles.

The Ukrainian minister expressed gratitude to his counterpart for Norway’s leadership and significant contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities.
