“Only what really flies and impresses”: the Ministry of Defense changes the approach to the procurement of drones – the decision will be made by automation based on data from the battlefield

The Ministry of Defense is changing the approach to the procurement of drones for the needs of the Defense Forces. From now on, the need will be generated automatically, based on data from the battlefield. UAVs will be selected only by technical characteristics – without a name or a specific manufacturer.

This was announced by Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov, informs the portal  PromPolitInform.

He noted that in this way the need for drones will be formed “without the human factor, subjective influence and corruption risks.”

“The transition from manual formation of needs to an automatic model will remove the “zoo” of ineffective solutions that the military is forced to refine with their own hands in the trenches. The state will buy only what really flies, affects targets and has proved its effectiveness at the front,” Fedorov wrote.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the request of units will form a list only with the technical characteristics of drones – without the name of the UAV or a specific manufacturer.

What products to buy for units at the front in accordance with combat missions – will determine the UAV rating based on combat data from digital systems: “eBal,” DOT-Chain, Brave1 Market, DELTA and Mission Control.

“This is the first time that procurement decisions are formed automatically, based on real combat data. If the drone does not fly or does not hit targets, the system simply will not generate a need for it,” the minister writes.

A new approach to budget distribution is also being introduced: 80% of the funds will be directed exclusively to “solutions that have proved their effectiveness” according to these systems. The remaining 20% is for innovation and the purchase of new developments for testing in combat conditions.
