As a result of the Russian attack on Kyiv on the night of August 16, the offices of the publishing houses “Laboratory” and “Nash Format” were damaged, as well as the book market near the Pochaina metro station was essentially destroyed. This is reported by Zn.ua, the PromPolitInform portal informs.
“Today, Iskander missiles flew over the office and part of the Laboratory warehouses on Pochaina Street near the book market. We did not have time to transfer everything that we planned to other warehouses in Ukraine, although you do not know where to move with the relocation…”, – the founder of “Laboratory” Anton Martynov reported on Facebook.
He added that for a while, orders on the publishing house’s website will only be partially available and will be sent from other warehouses to which some of the books have been moved.
The publishing house “Nash Format” wrote on its official website that its office was damaged — parts of the walls were knocked out in several offices, the ceiling was damaged, and furniture was destroyed and shifted.
“Fortunately, no employees were injured. Currently, the publishing house team is assessing the consequences of the attack and the extent of the damage. We are not opening a separate fund for the restoration of the office. The best way to support “Nash Format” is to buy our books,” the company said.
They reminded that this is not the first time they have suffered from a Russian attack — in July last year, the publishing house’s warehouse and online store were damaged, and some of the books were lost during the firefighting. After that attack, the publishing house was able to fully resume its work a month and a half later.
However, the book market near the Pochaina metro station suffered particularly large-scale damage that night. Some representatives of the book industry and simply Kyiv residents suggest that after such a large-scale fire, it may not recover.
“The book market on Pochaina is gone. An entire era has ended…”, commented on the fire at the book market, CEO and co-owner of Vivat Publishing House Yulia Orlova.
This is not the first fire at the book market as a result of a Russian attack. Before that, it was literally damaged on July 30. Then part of the pavilions with books and antiques also burned down.
