A targeted ground operation against key Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon was launched by the Israel Defense Forces. Its purpose is called the expansion of the buffer zone.
According to the Times of Israel, the IDF (Israeli army) said in a statement that the operation is part of efforts to “create and strengthen an advanced defensive position,” which involves the destruction of terrorist infrastructure and the elimination of Hezbollah terrorists in the area in order to “eliminate threats and create an additional level of security for the inhabitants of northern Israel,” informs the portal PromPolitInform.
The military reported that the raid began late on Saturday, March 14. The IDF clashed with several Hezbollah fighters and destroyed them. The entry of ground troops into southern Lebanon was preceded by Israeli Air Force and artillery strikes “against numerous terrorist targets” in the area.
The ground operation comes after Hezbollah launched an attack on Israel earlier this month amid a war with Iran.
The IDF said it planned to deploy additional forces to southern Lebanon and further expand its buffer zone to push the threat from Hezbollah as far as possible from the border.
