Land owners will have to pay more due to new financial assessment rules. As reported by the PromPolitInform portal, the Expert portal writes about such changes in citizens’ tax obligations for 2026.
There is no official concept of a vegetable garden tax, but you still need to pay for your acres. The amount of payment directly depends on the normative monetary assessment of the land, which was indexed by a coefficient of 1.08. Now the state will calculate the tax according to new indicators regardless of what exactly grows on your plot.
For example, you have a standard ten acres of land, where a square meter previously cost 200 hryvnias. After indexation, this value increased to 216 hryvnias, so the total assessment of the plot will be 216 thousand. Since the rate for agricultural land reaches one percent, the owner will have to pay more than two thousand hryvnias to the budget per year.
Additional expenses await those farmers who actively sell their crops. The law allows you to trade vegetables without paying taxes only if the annual profit does not exceed twelve minimum wages. For 2026, this financial limit was set at 96 thousand hryvnias.
If you earn more from vegetables, you will have to declare the difference. Then the state will take 18 percent of the income tax and another one and a half percent of the military levy. Those who try to hide their profits from the sale of crops will be punished with a fine of a quarter of the unpaid amount.
However, some Ukrainians can legally avoid these expenses thanks to state benefits. Pensioners, large families, war veterans and people with disabilities of the first and second groups are exempt from payment. They have the right not to pay for plots of land up to two hectares in area, but for each extra meter they will have to pay on general terms.
Ignoring payments is extremely dangerous, because for each day of delay, a penalty of 0.05 percent of the debt amount is charged. When the debt exceeds 3,060 hryvnias, tax officials will immediately transfer the case to the enforcement service. After that, the debtor risks having his bank accounts seized or funds forcibly collected.
