US President Donald Trump announced a temporary suspension of strikes on Iran for five days after allegedly “productive negotiations,” but Tehran denied this.
Against the background of Donald Trump’s statements on the Truth Social social network about stopping attacks in the Middle East, oil prices plummeted, the PromPolitInform portal informs.
Trump said that the United States is postponing strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure, since within two days the parties allegedly held “very good and productive” negotiations.
“Based on the tone and content of these deep, detailed and constructive discussions, I have ordered the Department of Defense to postpone any strikes on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for five days,” he wrote, adding that negotiations would continue for a week.
Tehran denies negotiations and unblocking the strait
However, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that there were no negotiations with the United States, Mehr wrote.
Tehran considers Trump’s statements an attempt to influence the energy market and buy time.
“There were no negotiations and no… neither the Strait of Hormuz will return to the pre-war state, nor will there be peace in the energy markets,” a source in the field of national security quotes Fars.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also said that Trump’s words are part of a “psychological war” and an attempt to lower energy prices.
Against the background of these statements, the price of Brent crude oil fell sharply to $97 per barrel, after which it partially recovered to about $101, according to ICE exchange data.
The situation unfolds after Trump’s ultimatum of March 22: Washington demanded that Iran open the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours, otherwise it threatened to hit the energy infrastructure. In response, Tehran announced its readiness to attack energy and infrastructure facilities in the region.
Earlier, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also allowed a partial easing of sanctions against Iranian oil in order to stabilize world prices.
