President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reported on the details of the meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington. Kyiv Post reports, the PromPolitInform portal reports.
During the talks in the Oval Office, the leaders discussed the strengthening of Ukrainian air defense, intensifying diplomatic efforts and further cooperation between the countries.
Main topics of the talks:
Air defense production: the parties discussed the issue of obtaining licenses for the production of interceptors for the Patriot systems, as well as additional ideas for protecting Ukrainian skies.
Diplomacy: the leaders emphasized the importance of intensifying the diplomatic process. The teams will agree on the details of further communication in the near future.
Condolences: Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed his condolences to Donald Trump over the death of Senator Lindsey Graham, stressing that he was a true friend of Ukraine.
Zelensky expressed gratitude to the United States and personally to Trump for their strong support and joint work to protect the lives of Ukrainians and achieve peace.
The visit followed an agreement that laid the foundation for the drone agreement, signed during a recent trip to Ukraine by Washington’s special envoy to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, as well as discussions with a delegation from arms manufacturer Raytheon.
Trump is also scheduled to host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after his meeting with Zelensky — their first meeting since the Iran war began on February 28.
On Tuesday evening, Zelensky also plans to attend the funeral of the late US Senator Lindsey Graham, a staunch supporter of Ukraine who lobbied for the Sanctioning Russia Act and whose last visit before his death was to a secret Ukrainian drone factory.
