Kyiv authorities have announced new fares for public transport. The price will increase almost fourfold

In Kyiv, starting July 15, the cost of public transport will increase almost fourfold – a single trip will cost 30 hryvnias, the Kyiv City State Administration reported on May 18. Currently, such a trip on the metro, trolleybus, tram or bus costs 8 hryvnias. This is reported by Radio Liberty, according to the PromPolitInform portal.

The authorities specify that for passengers who regularly use public transport, discounts will apply depending on the number of trips purchased on the transport card:

1–9 trips — 30 UAH

10–19 — 28.90 UAH

20–29 — 27.80 UAH

30–39 — 26.60 UAH

40–49 — 25.50 UAH

50 trips — 25 UAH

Currently, if you buy 50 trips, the cost is 6 hryvnias 50 kopecks.

When buying monthly passes, the cost of one trip will be approximately 23.3–23.6 hryvnias, the Kyiv City State Administration specifies. Students will pay 50% of the cost of a monthly pass. Students will use transport for free during the school year, and in the summer – with a 75% discount.

“Separately, they plan to introduce a transfer ticket for 60 UAH, which will allow unlimited transfers between the metro and ground transport for 90 minutes,” the Kyiv authorities said in a statement. This experience was adopted from the transport of European cities, but it is not yet known how acceptable it is for Kyiv, where the city transport schedule is not maintained so clearly, including due to air traffic alerts.

Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko in early April instructed the Kyiv City State Administration departments to “prepare calculations based on economic justification for revising fares for public transport in the capital.”

“The cost of travel in Kyiv remains the lowest in Ukraine. And it has not been revised since 2018. The increase in the cost of fuel, electricity, consumables, and logistics forces the city authorities to bring the cost of travel closer to economically justified,” the mayor of the capital wrote in a telegram on April 7.

He indicated that Kyiv’s public transport is subsidized, with costs for 2026 reaching 12 billion hryvnias.
