Oil terminal in Novorossiysk, oil depot and tanker of the Russian shadow fleet were damaged after strikes by Ukrainian drones
On the night of May 23, the Defense Forces of Ukraine struck important facilities of the Russian regime. The oil terminal in Novorossiysk, an oil depot and a tanker of the Russian “shadow fleet” were attacked. Severe fires broke out at the attacked facilities. This, Informator reports, is stated in a message from the General Staff of Ukraine. The PromPolitInform portal informs.
It is noted that among other facilities, the Sheskharis oil terminal in Novorossiysk was hit. The hit and fire on the terminal territory have been confirmed.
“Sheskharis” is one of the largest oil terminals in the Russian Federation on the Black Sea, which is part of the Transneft PJSC system. The throughput capacity is up to 75 million tons of oil per year, and the volume of the tank farm is about 1.28 million cubic meters. The facility provides transshipment of oil and oil products for export and is involved in meeting the needs of the army,” the General Staff recalled.
The Grushova oil terminal was also hit in the Novorossiysk region. A strong fire was recorded on the territory of the facility. The oil terminal is a key component of “Sheskharis”. This is one of the largest tank complexes in southern Russia, which can store up to 1.4 million cubic meters of oil and oil products.
“The facility is used for storage, transshipment and transportation of oil and oil products, among other things, to ensure the military logistics of the aggressor state,” the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted.
In addition, the area where the Russian “shadow fleet” ships are based was hit in the Black Sea. The tanker CHRYSALIS was unlucky – it received serious damage.
“Our soldiers also hit the enemy’s communication nodes in Krasnorichenske in Luhansk Oblast and in Smiloye in Zaporizhia and a warehouse of material and technical equipment in Frolivske in Zaporizhia Oblast. In the Donetsk Oblast, an enemy ammunition warehouse in Prechystivka in Donetsk Oblast was hit,” the General Staff added.
Strikes on the Russian oil industry and their impact on the situation
It should be noted that strikes on Russia’s deep rear significantly affect the situation on the front, as they destroy logistics and deplete resources. Attacks on refineries and oil depots are limiting fuel supplies for equipment and aircraft. Russia is forced to move air defense systems to the rear, weakening defenses on the front lines.
As previously reported, the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine has obtained secret Russian documents with an internal assessment of the economic losses from the war – data that the Kremlin is hiding from both the international community and its own citizens. The documents record a decline in oil production, the collapse of oil refining, a banking crisis, and a catastrophic federal budget deficit.
Meanwhile, Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, assured that Ukrainian drone strikes on oil refineries do not pose a risk of a fuel shortage in the country. However, reality seems to contradict the official position: on May 21, residents of Ryazan reported that they could not find gasoline at the city’s gas stations.
