On August 20, 2026, the Ukrainian military struck the Akhtubinsk airfield in the Astrakhan region of Russia. The attack resulted in damage to a Su-34 fighter-bomber and fuel leakage at the facility.

This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing the Telegram channel of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This military airfield is located approximately 650 kilometers from the frontline. It hosts the 929th State Flight Testing Center of the Ministry of Defence of Russia, which focuses on testing and evaluating new types of aviation equipment.

Strategic importance of the facility for the enemy

Russian occupying forces used Akhtubinsk as a base for Su-34 aircraft. These jets are deployed to launch guided aerial bombs against Ukrainian positions and residential areas.

Ukrainian units continue their systematic efforts to identify and destroy priority targets that hold military and military-technological significance for the enemy.
