Naval drones are becoming multifunctional platforms for combat missions

Unmanned maritime vehicles are transforming from specialized strike assets into multifunctional platforms. They provide reconnaissance, logistics, and interaction with other robotic systems on the battlefield.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Костянтин Широкун) citing Vyacheslav Klementiev, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

According to the head of the All-Ukrainian Federation of Military UAV Pilots Vyacheslav Klementiev, modern unmanned naval complexes are capable of significantly influencing the course of hostilities. Today, these vehicles perform reconnaissance, communication, cargo transportation, and evacuation functions, becoming carriers for other systems.

Executing complex maritime operations

A practical example of such multitasking was the use of Barracuda complexes by marines of the 40th Separate Marine Brigade of the Ukrainian Navy near Zaliznyi Port. The naval platforms delivered FPV drones to the launch point, after which the aerial component struck logistics routes and enemy positions.

During this operation, the enemy tried to interfere with the movement of the naval drones, but despite the loss of one complex, the mission was completed. Another instance was the operation on the Kinburn Spit, where a naval platform delivered and deployed a ground robotic complex to execute a combat mission on the coast.

Integration of robotic systems

Ukraine is gradually transitioning to the implementation of network-centric systems, where naval, ground, and air assets operate in coordination. The next stage of development will be the integration of these platforms into a unified command system to execute complex missions, which minimizes risks for personnel.

In parallel, the technical capabilities of the defense forces are being strengthened by other means. In particular, the Swedish Giraffe radars from Saab have been put into service, capable of tracking air and surface targets, and the TAF Industries company has begun series production of Octopus-100 interceptors to counter enemy jet drones.
