Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States to the UN Dan Negrea called on Ukraine and russia to cease strikes on civilian targets during a Security Council meeting. The diplomat also urged the parties to implement an immediate ceasefire and return to the negotiating table. This was reported by Ukrinform, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The official’s statement was made during a United Nations Security Council meeting dedicated to Ukraine’s Independence Day. In his address, the US representative emphasised the importance of following the call by President Donald Trump to end the conflict through good-faith negotiations.
Safety of civilian objects
Dan Negrea expressed concern over the rising number of civilian casualties resulting from hostilities. He stressed the need to end attacks that threaten civilian shipping and infrastructure.
“We call on both sides to cease any strikes that cause harm to civilian vessels or pose a threat of damage to them. It is senseless to continue spilling the blood of innocent civilians when there is no military solution to this war,” Negrea stated.
United States role in the negotiation process
The American representative reaffirmed the willingness of the US to play a constructive role in facilitating dialogue between Kyiv and Moscow. He assured that Washington remains committed to the future of Ukraine as a sovereign nation.
