Representatives of the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC) participated in NATO exercises focused on countering unmanned aerial vehicle attacks. Over 1,000 personnel from 25 NATO member states and Ukraine took part in the LCI-X 3-26 Execution drills held in Latvia. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
The international drills marked the third phase of extensive testing aimed at evaluating and integrating anti-drone solutions to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank. The event took place as part of the broader Exercise Baltic Trust training framework.
During this phase, military commanders shifted from testing isolated counter-UAV capabilities to multi-element integration. The experimental solutions were integrated at the tactical level and directly linked into NATO command and control (C2) systems.
Ukrainian expertise shaping exercise scenarios
Ukrainian specialists focused on aligning NATO experimental activities with the reality of modern battlefield conditions. Their recommendations submitted prior to the drills helped refine the general exercise concept and key UAV flight profiles.
During the active phase, JATEC experts monitored and coordinated the red force crews acting as simulated adversaries. This oversight ensured strict compliance with flight plans and an accurate representation of contemporary aerial threats.
Enhancing interoperability through combat experience
Systematically involving Ukrainian service members with actual combat experience in joint operations remains a core priority for JATEC. This collaboration helps allied partners bolster their protective capabilities against hostile drones.
Simultaneously, joint training accelerates operational interoperability between the Ukrainian Armed Forces and NATO standards and systems. Previously, Ukrainian veterans ensured realism during the Vistula Vanguard 26 wargame co-organized by JATEC.
