Former defense minister is working to attract American investment for a defense tech fund
Former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov expressed readiness to assist the United States in building a 'drone army'. In return, Ukraine expects deliveries of Patriot interceptor missiles crucial for air defense during the winter season. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Катерина Коваль) citing Financial Times, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The former official emphasized the importance of securing air defense assets to protect infrastructure this winter. He stated that such cooperation would benefit both nations, making him ready for the trade. However, he declined to comment on potential meetings in Washington with representatives of the incoming US administration.
Advisory Roles for Western Defense Ministries
Discussing his appointment as an advisor to Italy’s defense minister, the former official noted plans to expand this practice. He aims to secure similar advisory positions in other partner nations, including France and the United States.
Through his collaboration with Italy, he will assist in implementing modern warfare technologies, digitalization, and joint defense tech projects. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s new Defense Minister Yevhenii Khmara has assembled his team and discussed several operational proposals with his predecessor.
US Investment in Ukrainian Defense Tech
Additionally, the former minister is working to attract US capital into a defense technology fund. The initiative aims to establish and manage companies developing cutting-edge weaponry to counter Russian military aggression.
Negotiations are currently underway with a wide array of potential investors, including venture capitalists, private individuals, and American technology firms. Details regarding his personal financial involvement or specific managerial role remain undisclosed.
According to the former minister, the war could last another two to three years. The fund is intended to deliver advanced technological solutions for the front line while sharing Ukraine’s unique combat experience with Western allies.
Previously, the former defense chief declined four offers to remain within the president’s team, adding that the president should personally address questions regarding corruption issues among his close circle.
