Open tender process saved over UAH 2 billion in state budget funds
The Defence Procurement Agency of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has finalized an open tender for 5,000 new all-wheel-drive pickup trucks for the military. The first vehicles have already arrived at Defense Forces units, and the saved UAH 2 billion will be redirected to other defense requirements. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
The public tender procedure was launched back in May 2026 to ensure that the initial batch of vehicles would reach troops by autumn. The complete order of vehicles is scheduled for total delivery to military units before the end of the year.
This initiative represents one of the first large-scale centralized automotive procurement projects for the Ukrainian military carried out through the Prozorro e-system. Previously, such vehicle shortages were mostly met through volunteer fundraising or personal funds from soldiers.
Contracting Details and Vehicle Specifications
Under the contract requirements, the military will receive brand-new, all-wheel-drive vehicles equipped with powerful diesel engines and full manufacturer warranties. Rational use of state funds during the open auction generated savings exceeding UAH 2 billion.
“The demand for pickup trucks is constant and immense, but until recently it had to be met by volunteer drives and service members’ own resources. 5,000 units is the largest batch central state procurement has ever made, and this is just the beginning,” stated Deputy Minister of Defence Mstyslav Banik.
Supplier Diversification for Supply Resilience
To reduce supply chain risks, the overall procurement process was divided into multiple lots. As a result, supply contracts for the 5,000 pickups were distributed among six different vendors.
Transitioning military procurements to competitive procedures remains a consistent policy of the defense ministry. Similar transparent procurement models are already being utilized for purchasing 155mm extended-range artillery shells as well as bomber and middle-strike unmanned aerial vehicles.
