Kyiv insists on tighter sanctions against Russian ballistic missile production
Ukraine and the EU have agreed on joint steps to protect the Black Sea grain corridor and discussed strengthening Ukrainian air defense. A telephone conversation between Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas took place on September 8 following another wave of massive shelling. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Катерина Коваль), according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The head of the Ukrainian foreign policy department informed his European counterpart about the consequences of the nighttime attacks and stressed the urgent need for additional air defense systems to repel ballistic missile strikes. The minister expressed gratitude for the discussion at the informal meeting of EU foreign ministers and called for decisions commensurate with the current level of threats.
Protection of the maritime route
The interlocutors focused in detail on Russia’s attempts to disrupt the operation of the maritime trade route. Andrii Sybiha emphasized the unacceptability of global food security becoming a hostage to Moscow’s aggression and expressed reliance on EU support in ensuring the stable operation of the corridor.
The Ukrainian minister also insists on stricter sanctions against the production facilities of Russian ballistic missiles and the entire supporting ecosystem. According to him, Russia must not believe it can terrorize Ukrainian cities with impunity.
Preparation for UN events
Ahead of the UN General Assembly High-Level Week, the parties agreed on joint steps regarding food security. Sybiha stressed that the Russian Federation must be held accountable for every dimension of its aggression, ranging from ballistic terror against cities to deliberate threats to global food security.
Meanwhile, the capital of Ukraine is dealing with the aftermath of the latest enemy strikes, which damaged residential buildings and media facilities. Kyiv law enforcement authorities have already launched an investigation into the war crime.
