Pensions in 2027: how the average salary indicator for calculations will change

The calculation base for payments in 2027 may increase by 19 percent

The average wage used for pension calculations in 2027 may increase by approximately 19%. The final value will depend on official data from the current year. This was reported by Socportal citing На пенсії, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

The Pension Fund of Ukraine monitors the average monthly wage per insured worker. These figures serve as the basis for determining the individual earnings coefficient when processing payments under the Law on Compulsory State Pension Insurance.

Wage dynamics in 2026

According to the results of the first half of 2026, the average salary for these calculations was 24,392.78 UAH. The highest income level was recorded in June, reaching 28,169.69 UAH, whereas at the beginning of the year, in January, the figure was at the level of 21,876.06 UAH.

To calculate pensions to be awarded in 2027, the average salaries of the three preceding years — 2024, 2025, and 2026 — will be taken into account. If growth rates continue, the estimated average figure will be 20,844.29 UAH.

Impact on future payment amounts

Compared to 2026, when the amount of 17,482.87 UAH is used for calculations, the expected growth base is 3,361.42 UAH. This means that the calculation base will increase by 19%, though the final figures will only be released after the 2026 calendar year ends.

Experts point out that this change will not automatically increase pensions by the same percentage for all citizens. The final payment amount depends on a combination of factors, with the length of insurance coverage and the pensioner’s individual earnings being the key ones.

Features of awarding new pensions

The current methodology leads to a situation where individuals with the same length of service and income level may receive different payments depending on the year of retirement. Since a specific average salary indicator is set for each period, citizens processing their documents in 2027 may find themselves in a more favorable position, provided there is a corresponding growth in national indicators.

At the same time, it is worth noting that this mechanism applies only to new pension awards. Automatic recalculation of existing pensions based on this algorithm is not provided for, so each case requires an individual approach and consideration of the entire database on a person’s employment history.
