The GPT-Synopsys model will independently perform complex engineering tasks for chip development
OpenAI and Synopsys have joined forces to create the specialized GPT-Synopsys AI model. This technology will allow the automation of semiconductor design processes without constant human intervention. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Ольга Завада) citing Interesting Engineering, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The developers emphasize that the product being created will function not as a simple auxiliary tool, but as a fully autonomous expert user of specialized engineering software. Artificial intelligence will be able to independently initiate EDA workflows, analyze the resulting data, and iteratively refine the design of future chips based on processed information.
The interaction logic of the system involves several stages. Initially, engineers set target parameters such as power consumption, performance, die area, and timing requirements. AI agents then take control of the tools, optimize the architecture, and perform iterations to achieve a fully verified design, which is subsequently submitted to engineers for final review.
Accelerating Semiconductor Development
Synopsys CEO Sassine Ghazi noted that the future of the semiconductor industry requires a radical acceleration of development without sacrificing quality or risking first-pass manufacturing errors. The new model will leverage OpenAI infrastructure and integrate with the Synopsys.ai platform and the Synopsys Autopilot agentic environment.
Previously, Synopsys introduced the AgentEngineer system, which has already demonstrated significant performance gains. Specifically, the use of this technology has accelerated design verification by up to 50 times, increased test coverage by 20 percent, and boosted overall productivity by 30 percent.
Data Security for Corporate Clients
The developers are focusing on privacy, guaranteeing that private customer data will not be used to train the GPT-Synopsys model. To ensure the security of corporate data, the company is implementing encryption both in transit and at rest.
Customers will receive flexible tools for access control, auditing, and data storage. These measures are aimed at providing a secure environment for industrial companies working with intellectual property in the microelectronics sector.
