US Congress defends Ukraine’s strikes on Russian refineries against Donald Trump’s accusations

Kevin Cramer calls the actions of the Defence Forces justified in the fight against war funding

Congressman Kevin Cramer rejected claims by Donald Trump that Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries are driving up global fuel prices. The politician stated that Ukrainian forces are acting justifiably, as these facilities serve as a source of funding for the Russian aggression. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Валерій Ульяненко) citing Kevin Cramer, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

The Republican representative emphasized that the oil and petroleum product market is global in nature, meaning that any regional conflict in resource-producing areas inevitably impacts fuel costs. Therefore, price pressure in the market is shaped both by events in the Persian Gulf and by strikes on industrial facilities within the Russian Federation.

Global energy market

Kevin Cramer highlighted that the US possesses significant potential to increase oil refining, as domestic production volumes exceed those of Russia or Middle Eastern nations. In his view, this grants Washington the ability to respond more effectively to market challenges.

Regarding the attacks themselves, the congressman declared that it is impossible to criticize Kyiv for attempting to limit the resources that enable Vladimir Putin’s illegal war campaign. He is convinced that targeting energy infrastructure is one of the key tools for exerting pressure on the aggressor.

Technological support for the Ukrainian Armed Forces

Beyond comments on the oil sector, the politician supported an initiative by Senator Roger Wicker to expand the functionality of the Starlink system for the Ukrainian military. Cramer believes that providing access to a wider range of target acquisition capabilities will significantly strengthen Ukraine’s combat power.

He added that increasing leverage against the enemy will allow for a faster move toward a negotiation process that results in terms favorable to Ukraine. The congressman’s stance contrasts with previous statements by Donald Trump, who had blamed the Ukrainian side for causing a global diesel shortage by destroying Russian infrastructure.
