Protest held in Dublin in support of occupied Oleshky

Participants highlighted the threat of famine in the captured city using empty plates

Activists in Dublin organized a demonstration to draw global attention to the critical humanitarian situation in the occupied city of Oleshky in the Kherson region. The event aimed to highlight the severe lack of food and essential resources among the population living under Russian control. This was reported by Ukrinform citing the Ukrainian Crisis Centre in Ireland, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

In the center of Dublin, activists from Ukraine and Ireland staged a peaceful protest, attempting to convey information to the global community about the dire living conditions for civilians in the occupied city of Oleshky in the Kherson region. The event was organized by the Ukrainian Crisis Centre in Ireland.

Symbols of the fight against famine

A key feature of the demonstration was the use of empty plates placed on top of the Ukrainian national flag. This visual symbol served to remind passersby of the threat of hunger facing local residents following the establishment of an occupation administration. The organizers also drew parallels between the historical experiences of the Ukrainian and Irish peoples, both of whom suffered from the consequences of mass famine in the past.

Appeals to the international community

Irish citizens joined the action to express solidarity with the Ukrainian people. The program included the performance of the national anthem and an open microphone session, where participants urged the world not to ignore the humanitarian crisis in the occupied city. The Ukrainian Crisis Centre in Ireland urged those present to share accurate information about the situation and to contact local political representatives to help the residents of the occupied territories.

The critical situation of civilians

According to data from the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, regular food deliveries to Oleshky ceased as early as May 26. Head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration Oleksandr Prokudin reported that Russians are holding approximately 2,000 civilians hostage in the city, including children. These people are forced to survive without basic utility services, specifically electricity, water, or adequate food supplies. Earlier, in early October, the Ukrainian community in Dublin held a similar demonstration near the General Post Office. The organizers plan to hold the next peaceful demonstration on October 25 at 2:00 PM.
