Participants will develop technological standards that comply with European emission norms
The Ministry of Economy and Environment of Ukraine has launched the formation of a working group to develop conclusions on Best Available Techniques (BAT) for the non-ferrous metallurgy industry. Relevant government bodies, business representatives, researchers, and environmental NGOs are invited to participate. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine.
The establishment of this new consultative body is a further step in the implementation of the reform focused on integrated pollution prevention and industrial control. This initiative stems directly from Ukraine’s European integration commitments and the requirements of the Law on Integrated Prevention and Control of Industrial Pollution.
The working group’s activities will be based on the implementation of the European Directive 2010/75/EU, which regulates industrial emissions. In addition to the legislative framework, the work will rely on government-approved procedures that define how BAT conclusions are developed and approved.
Developing Industry Standards
The primary task of the expert group will be a detailed analysis of the draft BAT conclusions and the corresponding Reference Document (BREF), similar to those utilized within the European Union.
Based on the consultations and analytical work, the group will prepare professional recommendations. These materials will determine whether the draft conclusions are ready for final approval by the relevant ministry.
Registration Process
To participate in the working group, interested parties must complete an online registration form. The Ministry of Economy and Environment stated that this is only the initial phase, with plans to establish similar groups for other industrial sectors in the near future.
