The state will control supplies and halt them if a crisis occurs
Ukrainian private production companies have received the right to export up to 15% of their extracted resource abroad for the first time since the full-scale invasion began. This volume exceeds current industrial needs in Ukraine and will be sold at open auctions. This was reported by Association of Gas Producing Companies of Ukraine, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The adopted state decision is based on the early filling of underground gas storage facilities, detailed domestic consumption forecasts, and analysis of resources required for a stable heating season. Ensuring Ukraine’s full energy security remains the primary priority.
Conditions and Implementation Period
The export right applies to up to 15% of the natural gas produced by enterprises in the preceding month. The resource will be sold exclusively at open exchange auctions from March 1 to November 30 each year.
The procedure will be carried out under strict state control with the ability to promptly halt operations in case of crisis circumstances. Exporters are required to pay additional rental fees for the sold volume of gas linked to current European quotations.
Economic Benefits and Impact on the European Market
Enterprises will direct the received funds toward restoring damaged facilities, ensuring their physical protection, conducting geological exploration, and drilling new wells. The state anticipates additional tax revenues for budgets at all levels and an increase in foreign exchange inflows into the country.
For the European Union, this step demonstrates Ukraine’s reliability as a partner capable of supporting regional energy security. Amid low storage filling levels in Europe ahead of the 2026/2027 heating season, Ukrainian supplies can serve as an additional stabilizing factor for the European gas market.
