Dmytro Pletenchuk: Russian strikes on vessels in third-country waters will trigger international response

The Russian Federation continues deliberate escalation across the maritime area

Spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy Dmytro Pletenchuk stated that confirmation of Russian attacks on vessels in the territorial waters of third countries will provoke a strong international reaction. According to him, previous incidents involving civilian ships in the open sea have already demonstrated a qualitatively new level of hostile aggression. This was reported by Ukrinform, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

Hostile actions within the Azov-Black Sea basin are classified as a deliberate and systematic escalation of the conflict. Previous incidents involving shelling of civilian vessels have demonstrated Moscow’s transition to more dangerous methods of warfare on maritime communication lines.

Azov-Black Sea region

“You see that strikes on absolute civilian vessels occurred in the open sea. This was a new level of Russian aggression. Of course, if strikes on vessels in the territorial sea of third countries are confirmed, it will be a new degree that the aggressor country allows itself. And this time it will not be able to avoid an international reaction in any way,” Dmytro Pletenchuk said.

Simultaneously, the maritime space remains completely blocked for enemy forces. Russian warships do not dare to venture out into open waters.

Operational situation at sea

“The enemy does not risk going out to sea. For it, this sea remains closed for the fifth consecutive month, the enemy is forced to defend itself at the base point. Nevertheless, aviation is active,” Dmytro Pletenchuk noted.

Recall that earlier in October near the Black Sea coast close to the Pescăruș marine gas platform operated by OMV Petrom, a drone strike hit the Turkish-flagged grain carrier Royad Mammadov.
