The vessel, damaged near Novorossiysk, has beached near the Bosphorus strait
The Liberia-flagged tanker BANDA has run aground on the Black Sea coast of Turkey. The vessel previously sustained damage during a maritime drone attack near the Russian port of Novorossiysk. This was reported by USM — ports and shipping citing Maritime.bg, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The incident involving the vessel, identified by IMO number 9337406, occurred in the vicinity of the Bosphorus Strait. Prior to this, the crew and salvage teams had been transporting the damaged tanker for five weeks following the commencement of towing operations in the second half of August.
The attack on the BANDA took place on July 14, while the ship was approximately 70 nautical miles southwest of the port of Novorossiysk. At the time, Ukrainian forces released video footage documenting the use of uncrewed surface vessels to conduct the strike.
Implications for Black Sea shipping
The situation with this vessel is part of a series of similar events in the region. Within the last two days, this marks the second instance of a tanker running aground on the Turkish coast after previously being targeted in the Novorossiysk area.
Earlier, on October 14, a similar accident occurred involving the tanker Grace Romavictor. It was driven onto the shore in the Catalca region after sustaining damage from naval warfare activities.
