Funding for defence initiatives will be drawn via the SAFE mechanism
Minister of Defence of Ukraine Yevhenii Khmara held talks with Minister of National Defence of Lithuania Robertas Kaunas on establishing joint military manufacturing facilities. The parties focused on projects involving unmanned systems, electronic warfare tools, and air defence. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
The heads of both defence ministries reviewed the operational situation on the frontline alongside the threats posed by another potential wave of mobilisation inside russia. The Ukrainian delegation briefed their Lithuanian counterparts on the aftermath of a massive enemy strike that occurred overnight on 14 October.
During the dialogue, officials concentrated on practical defensive measures to strengthen the security of both nations. According to Yevhenii Khmara, developing long-term initiatives based on transparency remains the principal path toward collective resilience against external challenges.
Air defence expertise and interceptor development
Kyiv offered Vilnius hands-on combat experience accumulated by air defence units while countering enemy aerial weapons under actual warfare conditions.
The two nations agreed to cooperate in designing and manufacturing modern interceptors as well as integrated aerial threat detection setups. Conducting joint trials of cutting-edge defence technologies will also become an essential element of this partnership.
Defence industrial cooperation and capital attraction
A central pillar of the discussion involved setting up production facilities to supply the ongoing operational requirements of the Defence Forces of Ukraine. The roadmap encompasses establishing joint ventures along with the bilateral exchange of manufacturing technologies.
“Our goal is to launch and develop tangible initiatives that will bolster the defensive capabilities of Ukraine and Lithuania,” Khmara said.
To scale output, the sides are considering securing supplementary financing through the SAFE mechanism. Ukraine and Lithuania previously rolled out Brave Lithuania, a joint grant programme designed to foster defence-sector innovations.
