Contract signed for 4,700 ballistic protection sets worth UAH 186 million
The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has launched its first centralized procurement of anti-fragmentation suits for servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The State Operator FOR Logistics has contracted 4,700 sets. The total value of the signed agreements exceeds UAH 186 million. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, based on data from Mstyslav Banik.
Technical requirements for the protective gear were approved by the Logistics Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in May 2026. The document specifies detailed standards for construction, materials, components, and ballistic characteristics.
Preliminary field testing took place directly within military units whose missions demand high mobility. Based on test results, soldiers selected the most suitable model.
Components and Design Features
A single anti-fragmentation suit weighs approximately 2 kg, depending on the size. Each set comprises a specialized jacket, trousers, and pteruges.
Pteruges serve as additional protection for the pelvic area and upper thighs. They consist of an adjustable belt and seven protective sections containing soft ballistic packages that can be adjusted for a snug fit.
The soft ballistic inserts are designed to stop shrapnel and bullets while remaining flexible enough to contour to the human body. This ensures servicemen maintain required mobility during operations.
Purpose and NATO Sharing
The protective suits are designed for combat, special operations, training, and field conditions. They can be worn alongside standard body armor to protect additional body areas.
The equipment is primarily intended for assault troops, combat medics, and frontline personnel facing high risks from artillery fragments and drone attacks.
Since NATO militaries do not currently deploy similar anti-fragmentation suits, the first prototype of the Ukrainian development was shared with Western partners for review.
