The government has reduced the funding for compensation to victims in Myla and Vyshneve from UAH 838.1 million to UAH 513.07 million
The government of Ukraine has reduced planned compensation for victims in Myla and Vyshneve from UAH 838.1 million to UAH 513.07 million. Residents still have not received funds for destroyed housing. This was reported by Socportal citing Slidstvo.info, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
One and a half months after the detonation of ammunition depots in the village of Myla, Kyiv region, victims still have not received compensation from the state budget. The government initially planned to allocate UAH 838.1 million for residents of Myla and Vyshneve, but later reduced the amount to UAH 513.07 million.
Details of the Funding Review
According to Slidstvo.Info, citing responses from the Cabinet of Ministers and the Ministry of Economy to journalists’ inquiries, the government committee on September 22 returned the draft decision for revision to the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development and the Kyiv Regional Military Administration. The agencies were supposed to refine the calculations based on the decisions of commissions that determined the amount of compensation.
Following this, the Ministry of Economy reviewed the document and on October 6 re-submitted it for consideration by the Cabinet of Ministers. In the new version, the total amount is UAH 513.07 million — approximately 325 million less than in the previous version.
Distribution of Funds Between Communities
According to the updated draft, the funds are proposed to be distributed between two communities: Dmytrivka, which includes Myla — UAH 225.35 million, and Vyshneve — UAH 287.72 million. Total funding has decreased by approximately 39%. The government explained the revision by the need to clarify calculations based on commission decisions. The exact timing of the receipt of funds by victims was not reported.
Assistance Residents Have Already Received
According to Slidstvo.Info, residents of Myla who lost property or sustained severe damage to their homes received assistance from UNICEF — UAH 12,300 per person. State compensation for destroyed housing, provided for by the government project, has still not been paid to them.
Situation at the Scene of the Tragedy
Journalists visited Prorizna Street, which was at the epicenter of the explosions on August 28. Part of the houses completely burned down, while others sustained such severe damage that living in them is no longer possible. Local resident Zhanna Kravchuk lost her husband, who died while hiding from the explosions in the basement of their house. The family of Oleksandr and Ruslana Sydorenko with two children was also left without a roof over their heads — their home burned down after the explosions, and the family managed to escape. Some of the victims are trying to restore their property on their own, not knowing when state funds will arrive.
The Event of August 28, 2026
On the evening of August 28, 2026, a Russian drone attacked the territory of an enterprise in the village of Myla, Bucha district, Kyiv region. After the strike, a fire broke out, and ammunition depots located on the territory detonated. The explosions caused massive destruction of residential buildings and other civilian objects. According to the prosecutor’s office provided to Slidstvo.Info, 35 people were killed, and another 21 were injured or wounded. Previously, other state agencies published different data regarding the number of dead and injured. The nursing home located next to the depots suffered the greatest destruction. Among the dead is the head of the Dmytrivka community, Taras Didych. Following the tragedy, law enforcement officers opened criminal proceedings. Investigators are establishing the circumstances of the Russian strike, as well as checking the issues of the location and storage of ammunition near residential areas. The Security Service of Ukraine reported an investigation under articles concerning the crime of aggression and negligence regarding military service.
Why Compensation Also Affects Vyshneve
The government project provides for payments to residents not only of Myla, but also of Vyshneve, where a similar tragedy occurred on the night of July 6, 2026. At that time, a Russian strike also led to the detonation of ammunition at warehouses near residential buildings. As a result of the explosions, nine people died. According to law enforcement officers, as part of the investigation, the managers of the defense enterprise suspected of violating ammunition storage rules have been detained. Separate support programs for victims are already operating in Vyshneve. In particular, on September 3, the government allocated more than UAH 2.3 billion for the restoration of damaged housing under the eRestoration program, specifically for residents of Vyshneve. Local authorities also made separate payments from the community budget. However, these funds should not be confused with compensation for destroyed housing from the reserve fund, a decision on which for the amount of UAH 513 million has not yet been made.
