Ukraine Signs First Commercial Deal to Supply U.S. Liquefied Natural Gas via Greece

Ukraine has signed its first commercial agreement for the supply of U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) via Greece.

The first shipment of LNG from the United States is scheduled for delivery in March along the route Greece–Bulgaria–Romania–Moldova–Ukraine.

ATLANTIC SEE LNG TRADE has signed its first commercial agreement to sell U.S. liquefied natural gas to Ukraine, according to a statement published on the company’s website, PromPolitInform reports.

The contract was signed on Friday, January 30, 2026. The supplier is British energy company BP, while the buyer is Ukraine’s state-owned company Naftogaz.

The agreement marks the launch of ATLANTIC SEE LNG TRADE’s full-scale commercial operations in the regional gas market. The company is a joint venture, with 60% owned by the AKTOR Group and 40% by DEPA Commercial.

The first LNG cargo is expected to arrive in March at the Revithoussa terminal in Greece. From there, the gas will be transported to Ukraine via the so-called Route No. 1: Greece–Bulgaria–Romania–Moldova–Ukraine. The maximum supply volume may reach up to 1 million MWh (1 TWh), depending on the available transmission capacity of gas transmission system operators.

The company noted that this is the first large-scale commercial operation of ATLANTIC SEE LNG TRADE, which was established in November last year. The deal also contributes to the practical use of the Vertical Gas Corridor in Southeast Europe, enabling gas transportation from Greece to Ukraine through interconnected infrastructure.

Chairman of ATLANTIC SEE LNG TRADE and CEO of DEPA Commercial Konstantinos Xifaras stated that the signing of the agreement marks a transition from planning to practical implementation.

“With the delivery of the first U.S. LNG cargo in March, we are moving from design to execution. Greece is becoming a gateway for the supply and transit of American LNG to Southeast and Central Europe, strengthening regional energy security and supporting Ukraine at a critical moment,” he emphasized.

Meanwhile, ATLANTIC SEE LNG TRADE CEO and head of the AKTOR Group, Alexandros Exarchos, stressed that the vertical energy corridor has effectively begun operating.

“This route not only enhances Europe’s energy security but also brings tangible benefits to the Greek economy. The EU must support the vertical corridor if it truly seeks to abandon Russian gas—both directly and indirectly,” he noted.

The companies emphasize that the implementation of such projects is crucial for Europe’s energy resilience amid major geopolitical shifts and for reducing dependence on Russian energy resources.
