Searching for housing, employment, and starting a business are priorities of veterans’ policy.

The government is building a comprehensive system of support for veterans in finding employment, mastering a new profession, developing their own business, and finding housing solutions in communities. According to Sotsportal, the Department of Information and Communications with the Public of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine reported this. PromPolitInform reports.

“We are working to ensure that more veterans can find their place in civilian life, so that people who dedicated their time, energy, and health to defending the country have not only benefits but also a choice of career paths—both in the public and private sectors,” emphasized Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

According to her, more than 50% of veterans who returned to work have returned to their previous jobs. About 12,000 are working as sole proprietors, and more than 30,000 have found new jobs.

The Prime Minister outlined a number of comprehensive government decisions in support of veterans:

  1. The state program “Veteran.Work” for 2026-2027 has been approved. It covers professional adaptation, retraining, employment support, and the development of career opportunities after service.

The digital platform “Veteran’s Career” is being developed, with over 65,000 vacancies, over 3,000 registered veterans, and nearly 1,000 employers. It helps combine military experience with civilian competencies and find the best position based on existing knowledge and skills.

  1. The housing rental compensation program for all veterans is being expanded.

Housing rental assistance funds are now available to:

defenders who have lost or damaged housing in the temporarily occupied territories;

war veterans from the IDP population who do not own their own housing or who lived in houses that were not theirs;

Persons deprived of their personal liberty by the aggressor state in connection with the defense of Ukraine, who have returned from captivity and whose housing remains in the occupied territory of the Russian Federation.

Applications can be submitted through the veterans’ policy departments or the Administrative Service Center at the location of their rented housing.

  1. A state subsidy for communities to create veteran spaces is being launched. In 2026, 15 communities will receive funding. These will be barrier-free centers where veterans and their families can receive consultations, services, and support in returning to active community life in a single location.
  2. A special status for veteran entrepreneurs is being introduced to give veterans access to special financial support programs, grants, benefits, and other tools for developing their own businesses. The Ministry of Veterans Affairs will further communicate the procedure for obtaining this status.

“All national and regional opportunities for veterans are available on the Veteran.Pro platform.” “The government, together with businesses, continues to work systematically to ensure that veterans have real opportunities after their service, are aware of them, and can easily take advantage of them,” concluded Yulia Sviridenko.
