Naftogaz Ukrainy is importing American liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the first time through a terminal in the Lithuanian port of Klaipėda. This was announced by company CEO Serhiy Koretskyi, according to UA.NEWS. PromPolitInform reports.
According to Koretskyi, the volume of LNG supplied from the US to Klaipėda is 90 million cubic meters. The supply is being carried out in partnership between Naftogaz and the Lithuanian state-owned energy holding Ignitis Group. Ukrainian specialists will then independently deliver the blue fuel to Ukraine in February and March.
Koretskyi noted that Naftogaz is systematically working to diversify its gas supplies, expanding both sources and import routes.
“This is necessary to improve the reliability and uninterrupted supply of gas to our consumers, especially in the face of constant Russian attacks on gas and energy infrastructure,” the official added. As a reminder, the liquefied natural gas from the US contracted by Naftogaz Group passes through Deutsche ReGas’s LNG terminal in the Baltic Sea, after which it is delivered to Ukraine via Poland’s gas transmission system.
