“We can take almost anything we want.” Trump explained why the agreement on Ukrainian subsoil is very profitable for the US

US President Donald Trump said that the agreement between Ukraine and the United States on cooperation in the field of minerals signed in 2025 is “very profitable” for Washington. According to him, the US, thanks to the agreements, can receive significant profits from access to Ukrainian resources. This is reported by UA.NEWS, the PromPolitInform portal reports.

The American president emphasized that Ukraine has significant reserves of rare earth minerals, and the concluded agreement, in his opinion, will allow the US to compensate for the costs of supporting Kyiv.

“We concluded an agreement (with Ukraine – ed.)… We have a signed contract. As for rare earth resources, we can enter there at any time. We can take almost anything we want. It was a pretty good deal,” Trump said.

He also suggested that the potential US revenue from the implementation of the agreements could exceed $300 billion, which, he said, would allow Washington to “get its money back.”

On April 30, 2025, Ukraine and the United States signed an agreement to establish the Ukraine Minerals Investment Fund.

The document stipulates that:

full ownership and control of Ukraine’s subsoil remains with Ukraine;

only Ukraine determines where and what minerals will be extracted;

the fund operates on the basis of an equal partnership, and Ukraine and the United States manage it on an equal basis, without a majority vote of either party;

the agreement does not change the rules for privatization and management of state-owned companies, which continue to be owned by Ukraine.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko emphasized that state-owned companies, in particular Ukrnafta and Energoatom, remain in the ownership of Ukraine, and the agreements concluded do not provide for the transfer of control over Ukrainian subsoil or strategic enterprises.

Trump stated this on Real America’s Voice.

The agreement between Ukraine and the United States on cooperation in the field of subsoil use will not lead to the launch of production for at least the next decade and will require large-scale private investments.

The delegations of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) showed the first deposits in the Kirovohrad region, which could become starting projects for the Investment Fund for the Reconstruction of Ukraine.
