Night of explosions in Russia: drones attacked the energy sector and caused a blackout in the Russian Federation

Due to a drone attack in Belgorod, the energy infrastructure was damaged, and the Armavir station caught fire in the Krasnodar Territory. This was reported by Comments.ua, the PromPolitInform portal reports.

On the night of March 8, a series of powerful explosions were heard in Russia. The Russian Ministry of Defense announced the alleged shooting down of 72 Ukrainian drones over several regions of the country, in particular over the Krasnodar Territory, the Belgorod Region, the temporarily occupied Crimea and the waters of the Sea of Azov.

The greatest consequences of the drone attack on Russia were recorded in the Belgorod Region. The Governor of the region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, reported a blackout and serious damage to facilities in the region.

“Serious damage was caused to energy infrastructure facilities. As a result, power outages, water supply and heating were recorded. We will be able to assess the exact extent of the damage in daylight,” Gladkov wrote.

The official also announced a “massive missile attack,” while the Russian Defense Ministry reported downed drones. Local Telegram channels write that at least two electrical substations could have been hit, including “Belgorod” on Storozhova Street and “Frunzenskaya” near the village of Dragunske. Videos also appeared on the network, which recorded the moment of the blackout and bright electrical flashes after the explosions.

Another target of the drone attack was the Krasnodar Territory. According to the OSINT community “CyberBoroshno”, the drones hit the linear production and dispatching station “Armavir”. This is a key pipeline logistics hub, where oil products are pumped through main pipelines, stored in tanks and shipped by rail.

Analysts note that damage to such facilities can affect not only a single station, but also the entire fuel transportation system in the region. In particular, this can reduce the volume of oil pumped, disrupt reserve storage and complicate further fuel supplies.

According to official reports from the Russian authorities, the fire at the Armavir station was localized to an area of about 700 square meters. Information about the real scale of damage and possible consequences for the energy infrastructure is still being clarified.
