Ukraine resumed pumping oil “Friendship” after 85-day repair

Ukraine resumed pumping oil through the Druzhba main pipeline, and deliveries to Slovakia may resume on the morning of April 23.

This was reported  by the Minister of Economy of Slovakia Denisa Sakova, reports TSN, informs the portal PromPolitInform.

According to her, according to Ukrtransnafta, on the morning of April 22, a pressure increase and filling of the system began on the Ukrainian section of the pipeline from Belarus.

It is expected that the pumping of oil and its supply to Slovakia will be fully resumed on Thursday morning, April 23.

Friendship and credit from the EU

As you know, at the end of 2025, the leaders of the European Union agreed to provide Ukraine with a loan of 90 billion euros. However, the launch of financing was blocked by Hungary.

After Russia damaged the Druzhba pipeline, Budapest began blocking the decision, accusing Ukraine of stopping the transit of Russian oil.

Then-Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that he would not support the loan until supplies along this route were restored.

Over time, the situation began to change. On April 19, Orban said that Ukraine was ready to resume oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline, subject to the unblocking of funding from the EU.

Already on April 21, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the pipeline section damaged as a result of Russian shelling had been repaired, and it was ready to work.

Today, Ukrtransnafta JSC confirmed the completion of repair work on the Ukrainian section of Friendship and the abolition of force majeure.

The company announced its readiness to resume the transit of crude oil to Hungary and Slovakia.
