Iran has threatened to treat neighbouring states as enemies and target their interests if they join the sanctions policy of the United States. The statement was made by the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei. This was reported by Al Jazeera citing Reuters, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
Mohsen Rezaei warned that Tehran is prepared to take decisive action against those who support Washington’s economic pressure. According to him, the Iranian side will initially attempt to negotiate, but will resort to extreme measures if their appeals are ignored.
Strategy to counter economic pressure
The administration of Donald Trump previously announced an intensification of economic restrictions against Iran. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed the White House’s intentions, highlighting severe consequences for states that provide aid to the Iranian economy.
The Iranian leadership views these steps as an attempt to destabilize the internal situation in the country and provoke protests. Mohsen Rezaei stated that the US is hoping for a weakening of national unity, which would facilitate military operations.
Control over maritime routes
A key factor in the conflict remains the Strait of Hormuz, where traffic was restricted following the start of hostilities. Many states in the region are already pursuing alternative routes for energy exports.
Tehran warned that it is considering the possibility of attacking these new logistical paths if neighboring countries assist Washington. Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran condemned the US sanctions policy as an assertion of extraterritorial sovereignty over other states.
