A train carrying former CIA director David Petraeus was at the station shortly before the hit
A diplomatic train carrying European officials and former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson was at Yahodyn railway station shortly before a Russian drone struck a locomotive. At the time of the attack, another train carrying former CIA Director David Petraeus remained at the station. This was reported by Ukrinform citing Ukrzaliznytsia, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The diplomatic delegation aboard the train at Yahodyn station shortly before the strike included security advisors from several European Union member states and former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The diplomatic train left the station earlier than scheduled as train movement schedules were being adjusted in real time due to constant strike threats.
At the time of the enemy attack, another passenger train remained directly at the station. Among its passengers was former head of the US Central Intelligence Agency David Petraeus.
Air strike details and security response
The attack on the railway infrastructure was carried out by a jet mesh drone two kilometres from the state border with Poland. The aerial target was detected in time by a dispatcher from the Central Monitoring Group, allowing railway staff to respond promptly to the threat.
“The evacuation signal from the train was given literally 15 minutes before the hit on the locomotive. It is highly likely that the target of this Russian drone could have been the diplomatic train,” the company stated.
Schedule adjustments amid ongoing strikes
The railway authority emphasized that Russian forces continue numerous attempts to attack civilian rolling stock. Consequently, movement schedules for passenger and diplomatic trains are continuously adjusted based on the security situation and track availability.
Railway officials urged passengers to immediately and strictly follow all safety instructions and staff commands whenever a threat of shelling arises.
