Case of Russian director Volodymyr Bortko referred to court

The defendant faces up to 8 years in prison with asset confiscation

The Security Service of Ukraine has completed its investigation and referred to court the indictment against Russian film director and former Russian State Duma deputy Volodymyr Bortko. He is charged with war propaganda and denial of Ukrainian statehood through public calls to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine. This was reported by Ukrinform citing Security Service of Ukraine, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

Investigators of the Ukrainian intelligence service documented numerous episodes of illegal activities committed by the defendant throughout 2017–2026. Specifically, during broadcasts on Komsomolskaya Pravda radio, the director agitated for the seizure of Kyiv and the entire territory of Ukraine.

Charges and articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine

Based on the gathered evidence, the accused faces charges under Article 436 and Part 3 of Article 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He is incriminated with war propaganda, as well as the production and distribution of materials justifying the armed aggression of russia against Ukraine, committed repeatedly using mass media.

Since the director is currently residing on the territory of russia, law enforcement agencies are taking comprehensive measures to bring him to justice. The sanctioned penalties under these articles provide for up to 8 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
