Ukraine and Romania agreed to increase exports by rail, ports and across the border

The parties agreed on the development of border infrastructure and transport links

Ukraine and Romania have reached agreements on increasing export volumes by rail, through sea ports and border crossings. This was discussed during a working visit to Romania, where the parties addressed the development of logistics routes. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine.

In the morning in Constanta, the Ukrainian delegation held a meeting with State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport of Romania Ionel Scrioșteanu. Representatives of railway enterprises, port operators, business circles, customs and border authorities also joined the talks. The Romanian side confirmed its unwavering support for Ukraine and readiness to continue joint work despite the ongoing government formation process.

Railway transport and ports

The parties recorded an agreement to maintain the daily transfer of six pairs of trains towards the port of Constanta. To increase this figure to ten pairs per day, the Romanian side undertook to accelerate repair and restoration work on port-adjacent and railway infrastructure. In addition, meeting participants discussed priority clearance of Ukrainian cargo and the introduction of a joint information coordination tool.

Special attention was paid to engaging additional capacities of the ports of Galati and Braila. Regarding the Sulina Canal, the target figure of at least ten inbound and ten outbound vessels daily has been maintained. By the end of the week, a representative of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority will receive an invitation to join joint traffic dispatching.

Navigation and highways

In case of significant congestion of vessels awaiting departure from Ukrainian ports, partners will allocate a full day for their passage through the channel in an exclusive mode. Night navigation was also agreed for vessels that managed to enter the canal before dark, subject to all safety regulations. At the automobile border section, measures to expand the Porubne — Siret checkpoint continue after Ukraine built four additional lanes.

The parties considered the prospects of opening the Shepit and Khyzha checkpoints for passenger cars and the preparation of an intergovernmental agreement on joint control. Furthermore, the economic feasibility of constructing the Orlivka — Isaccha bridge and preparing an agreement on the connection between Pascani and Tarasani was confirmed. This provides for the further development of the M-19 highway within the SAFE initiative.
