UAH 43.5 billion will go to financial support for servicemen and their families
The Cabinet of Ministers has allocated an additional UAH 60 billion for the needs of the Defense Forces. Of this amount, UAH 43.5 billion is earmarked for payments to military personnel and support for their families, while another UAH 16.6 billion is planned to be used to provide units with necessary equipment and maintain machinery. This was reported by Glavcom citing Serhii Koretskyi, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The funding of the defense sector covers several key areas, in particular the procurement of drones, ammunition, and communication equipment. This was reported by Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi.
In addition to directly supplying the units, the funds are directed to the acquisition of electronic warfare equipment and the repair and modernization of military hardware. Government decisions emphasize the need to stably finance the army to carry out combat missions.
Payments and previous government decisions
In October, the Cabinet already reported directing more than UAH 50 billion for payments to military personnel and their family members from the reserve for the security and defense sector. Earlier, in September, the government allocated an additional UAH 33.6 billion for payments to the military and their families.
Out of the September amount, UAH 25.9 billion was provided for the monthly financial allowance of servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Another UAH 7.7 billion was then directed to one-time financial assistance in cases of death, disability, or partial loss of working capacity.
Revision of arms procurement
Apart from additional budget infusions, in October the Ministry of Defence announced a review of some planned and active arms procurement contracts. As a result of this audit, it was planned to release UAH 15.6 billion.
These funds were to be redirected to the purchase of weapons and equipment that best match the current needs of the Ukrainian army at the frontline.
